Bollymusic : Best of 2009 (the year gone by)

I've been thinking about making a year's best bollywood songs compilation for listening in car. So yesterday on new years new evening I did it. Here it goes....

1) Give me sunshine give me some rain - 3 Idiots. I know that "All izz well" is the next anthem in college campuses across nation but some how this easygoing tune is a mood lifting number and it creeps into my list and it also made me feel like going back to college once more and redoing my B.Tech. !

2) Pankhon Ko from Rocket Singh - Gem of a film, gem of a song.
lyrics wise intelligent too.

3) Yeh Zindagi Bhi - Luck by Chance.

4) Tum Mile - Eminently hummable tune by Pritam who became an expert this year in churning out # 1 tracks movie after movie. this is one of my favorites in the list.

5) Pehli Baar Mohabbat - Kaminey. I dont know if breaking up of Silk Route was a good thing. But certainly it has given Bollywood a singer par excellence. Mohit dude! keep singing.

6) Kya Karoon - Wake up sid. Well my favorite album this year. dont remember who the singer was though. anyways Kudos and I'll google your name :)

7) Meeethi Meethi baatein - Morning Walk. Dont think if many people watched this small movie, but this song is a nice romantic one for a boy asking out his lady love !

8) Tune Jo Na Kaha - New York. Average movie but excellent song again by Mohit Chauhan.

9) Dooriyan - Love Aajkal. Again Mohit !!! Best playback singer of the year easily. Filmfare/IIFA/Zee Screen awards are you listening ? No nominations needed.

10) Iktaara - Wake Up Sid. Folksy rock number and what a fusion that is created by SEL ! Easily in my top 3 songs of 2009.

11) Tera Hone Laga Hoon - APKGK. Atif Aslam. Unique voice and Preetam's music, thats a lethal combo to make a song superhit. Video is also very likeable with a silly goofy Kat to look at, very easy on your eyes :)

12) Maahi. Raaz-2. A best music compilation without a Emran Haasmi song is unthinkable these days; isn't it. New singer Toshi is talented.

13) Rafa Dafa Kiya Nahi Jaaye - Radio. Himesh with his newly operated throat and a new voice was a refreshing change from his previous high pitch songs. This movie actually had 3-4 good songs sung by HR himself ! Good job.

14) Emotional Attyachar - Dev D. Cheers Amit Chaturvedi. Here's looking forward to more such rocking music from you to come in future. You could be the next Rehman of the nation.

15) Rehna Tu - Delhi 6. Rehman at his creative best in this romantic lovey dovey song. Takes you in a dream world.

16) Kyun - Kambakth Ishq - A good song in an otherwise forgettable album. Makes it to my CD due to some extra minutes left.

The list is not a ranking though in any order, mind it !

“Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless. --- and I did it this time :)

This has been a particularly insipid weekend for me....tried to make up a grp for a game outside like a "Laser Tag game event" or  "Bowling". when these didn't work out I wanted to go for "Up" and "Drag me to hell". To my bad luck even for tat i didn't have any company :( had to fall back on my tried and tasted method of wknd time pass, actually i ended up being at home for more than 48 straight hrs at my home. just moved from my bedroom to the living room or to the kitchen to pick up some snack or a ready made meal from Costco :D.

so here's the list of movies i catched up on during the past 48 hrs...of my life :-

Finding arranged love on flight....

Another boring monday at work and I happened to stumble upon rediff.com again (BTW it is my fav office time pass, especially get ahead section)
Get ahead section in rediff interests me a lot as it offers something which other news portals do not have. It talks about Career, Money, education and love n lifestyle.

Browsiing further on love and lifestyle I found out something interesting. A quick dekko at the concept of "arranged" love in Indian vs Western cultures.

An interesting read...

Tell me if you have had such similar incidents or everyday tales to share...

Dinner @ Casagudalajara for RD's b'day

My weekend splurge...

Well call it stupidity or call it being naive, whatever. I am spending my dollars on things I love to spend on every weekend.(Blame it on my anti-recession depression)  Last week, it was on my first "Puma" and this weekend it was a "Mustang" ( not the car, just a perfume).

Have a look, ain't it gorgeous?

My most frquented place in my favorite city !

I have always wanted to share some of things which I do for leisure on my weekends here in San Diego and visiting Del Mar for a coffee or simply for a beach experience, comes top on my list of things to do.
It is the nearest beach accessible for my residence. A drive down south on the Bernardo Center Dr-Carmel Valley-CA-56 takes me their in 15 mins.  It's a beach town meaning "by the sea" in Spanish. This info is taken from Wiki off course :)  It is a town on the edge of pacific ocean in the San Diego county, CA. Upon further research I came to know that this town is for the rich and famous with median income touching 80K $$ per annum for an individual.

An evening of a Chai Latte taken from the nearby Starbucks and walk on the beautiful beach of Del Mar with friends can refresh anybody, so cheers to one of my most fave places on earth (incidentally it is also the first beach for me in the land of USA. ) Below are some of the fresh snaps which I took last Friday evening on a borrowed camera from a friend.
From windows of shops@del mar...

Top 10 song albums of the Year(Hindi Movie Soundtrack) -- Vol 2

I have been practically listening to music all day and it's that time of the year again when the best of best compliations are published. So let me be the first of the pack...

!) Jodha Akbar - thinking of Jan-Feb or early 2008, only 1 album comes up in my mind; Jodha-Akbar. Movie might not have reached the cult status of the previous historic epic by AG, however this one had some good compositions by the Maestro himself (ARR for the uninitiated). Manmohana(the devotional number), Khawaja mere khwaja were the best of the lot.  An overall classic album for the shelf. All the songs were situational and took the movie forward.

@) Race - Some funky amalgamation of hip hop/rock/pop sounds by Preetam makes this album interesting to listen and watch in the movie. My fav singer Atif had a good song here. (Pehli Najar Mein).

#) Tashan - 2 exceptional songs (Dil Haara/Tashan Mein) by the Vishal Bhardwaj takes this albumin to this list of best of 2008. An otherwise pathetic movie to go through.

$) Aamir - 2008 has been a year of debutants; so here is Amit Trivedi making the cut here with his brand of rockish/sufish soundtrack. understandably the darkhorse OST of the year. An exceptional movie too. Bravo ! Cheers to the young blood.

%) JTYJN - Well Pappu did dance on this one :-) ARR again, back and taking a break from the epic/historical/big stars movie; instead giving a peppy, jazzy, soulful, classic western Indian combination of an album.  Good stuff.

^) Singh is King - Snopp Dog was the star of this big budget showpiece comedy movie of the year. While some may disagree on the laugh IQ of the movie; songs were a spectacle on big screen. Preetam created some good bhangra, romantic numbers  for this. And yes i did blast the title songs in my car stereo for a few weeks until....

& ) Rock On - rocked us all. Superb movie and equally excellent music. Initially it received some flak for being not true to the Rock genre but once the movie came the trio of shankar Eshan and loy were vindicated by their version of "Indirock". A new singer is born by the name of "Farhan Akhtar". Last heard "Rock on" band is playing in Mumbai in a concert promoting the local rock bands from India. Soul stirring and true to heart.

*)  Bachna Ae Haseeno - an enjoyable album with Khuda Jaane/Ahista Ahista/Title track being above average stuff. I wonder shy it is becoming a trend where all YSR movies have good music but crap stories these days.

() Yuvvraaj - What can i say this has been a fruitful year for Rehman fans like me. It's been not even 24 hrs tat Yuvvraaj's music was out but i have been hooked to it since then. Manmohini morey and Tu hi meri dost hain are exceptional songs. Didnot have a chance to go beyond these 2 yet.

)) the last slot is open as now. 2 more months to go. Lets see does how does Gajhini's music  come up.  Other contenders could also be in the pipeline.  I'll edit my post once more then.

Some other albums which had 1 or 2 above avg songs according to me - Karzzz, Superstar, Fashion, Drona, Golmaal Returns.

Adios,
Arry
