Top 10 song albums of the Year(Hindi Movie Soundtrack) -- Vol 2

I have been practically listening to music all day and it's that time of the year again when the best of best compliations are published. So let me be the first of the pack...

!) Jodha Akbar - thinking of Jan-Feb or early 2008, only 1 album comes up in my mind; Jodha-Akbar. Movie might not have reached the cult status of the previous historic epic by AG, however this one had some good compositions by the Maestro himself (ARR for the uninitiated). Manmohana(the devotional number), Khawaja mere khwaja were the best of the lot.  An overall classic album for the shelf. All the songs were situational and took the movie forward.

@) Race - Some funky amalgamation of hip hop/rock/pop sounds by Preetam makes this album interesting to listen and watch in the movie. My fav singer Atif had a good song here. (Pehli Najar Mein).

#) Tashan - 2 exceptional songs (Dil Haara/Tashan Mein) by the Vishal Bhardwaj takes this albumin to this list of best of 2008. An otherwise pathetic movie to go through.

$) Aamir - 2008 has been a year of debutants; so here is Amit Trivedi making the cut here with his brand of rockish/sufish soundtrack. understandably the darkhorse OST of the year. An exceptional movie too. Bravo ! Cheers to the young blood.

%) JTYJN - Well Pappu did dance on this one :-) ARR again, back and taking a break from the epic/historical/big stars movie; instead giving a peppy, jazzy, soulful, classic western Indian combination of an album.  Good stuff.

^) Singh is King - Snopp Dog was the star of this big budget showpiece comedy movie of the year. While some may disagree on the laugh IQ of the movie; songs were a spectacle on big screen. Preetam created some good bhangra, romantic numbers  for this. And yes i did blast the title songs in my car stereo for a few weeks until....

& ) Rock On - rocked us all. Superb movie and equally excellent music. Initially it received some flak for being not true to the Rock genre but once the movie came the trio of shankar Eshan and loy were vindicated by their version of "Indirock". A new singer is born by the name of "Farhan Akhtar". Last heard "Rock on" band is playing in Mumbai in a concert promoting the local rock bands from India. Soul stirring and true to heart.

*)  Bachna Ae Haseeno - an enjoyable album with Khuda Jaane/Ahista Ahista/Title track being above average stuff. I wonder shy it is becoming a trend where all YSR movies have good music but crap stories these days.

() Yuvvraaj - What can i say this has been a fruitful year for Rehman fans like me. It's been not even 24 hrs tat Yuvvraaj's music was out but i have been hooked to it since then. Manmohini morey and Tu hi meri dost hain are exceptional songs. Didnot have a chance to go beyond these 2 yet.

)) the last slot is open as now. 2 more months to go. Lets see does how does Gajhini's music  come up.  Other contenders could also be in the pipeline.  I'll edit my post once more then.

Some other albums which had 1 or 2 above avg songs according to me - Karzzz, Superstar, Fashion, Drona, Golmaal Returns.

Adios,
Arry

To blog or not to blog...

Things which I'm looking forward to at present in life -

1) Movies - Singh is King, if the movie is half as fun as the songs are....it should be one of the best AK movies to come up in recent times.
2) Cricket - India winning against the mystery "Mendis" and Murali by a margin of innings. Sehwag scoring a triple ton would be a perfect icing on the cake.
3) Adventure/Thrill - Well after Jetskiing a couple of months back, i didn't get a chance to do something new. Time to cook up something new AG !
4) Gaming - Need to buy the fifa 2008 before my interest goes down on gaming consoles... :-)
5) Travel/Vacation - Well next month has a long weekend coming up..labor day(yippee)
Yellowstone, we are a comin'.

Things which are not looking forward to at present in life -
1) Not another blast at desh. Enough terrorists; go away, give India a break for god's sake.
2) Less of the crap mundane support issue based work at office.
3) Suddenly street crime has increased in my peaceful crime free city of San Diego. Not looking forward to any more mugging cases. Give some senses to these crazy teeagers. They don't need to stoop so low to earn their living in the land of oppurtunities.

Well, nothing else is coming to mind; sounds like life is fun. :-)

Biwi Kaisi Ho ?

Now that I have seen almost 25years of my life (Born 12-Sep-1982) and…..I have been thinking now for a while as to how my spouse oughta be………… # # # # I am not looking for only a beautiful, slim and an intelligent girl…….They are all cliché.
The ones that matter are: The first prerequisite I expect of my wife --- no it isn't the ability to understand me, that's the second---- the first one's a sense of humour for me and all my nonsense She must sleep in my lap and allow me into hers. She must run her hand into my hair and fight me with pillows as often as she can. She must allow me to disturb her, Which I will, ---no matter how busy and serious she is and I am--- , while she goes about our household chores. She must sit with me shoulder in shoulder when we watch the late night movie together and must oblige to have a midnight walk anytime in the night. When the curry isn't nice and I stare into her eyes, she must straight away go and make an omlette for me. When she is downright tired she must flirt with me to win a cup of tea or a glass of cold water. She must be ready to blow a kiss any time any day and any place. By the way I take kiss only on lips. She should call me nicknames and how innovative she coins out new ones the better and must be prepared to confront some deadly ones in return. She can call me 'Tu' or anything as am not at all particular about those pronouns. She got every right to beat me up when I annoy her while she watches those dready serials. She can also extract what she wants of me on women's day. And I am also ready to share her pre-marital crushes and secrets. On those rare occasions when we might fight and then go on a mourning spree, it can continue for the night. The next morning must again be normal. I aint promising her a paradise but yes she will always get more of my love than our children.
And finally, she must have a higher life expectancy than me. I may not be able to live without her….. :-)
PS - A fwd mail from an office colleague who is getting married shortly and is currently in the engaged status !

Gilchrist >> C Age B Family 100(100)

If there is one event over the past week of happenings in cricket which made me nostalgicand a bit sad, then that event would be retirement of Adam Gilchrist from Test and ODI's.
Gilly, as he was affectionately called by his fans was a thorough gentleman cricketer, a rarity in these days of personal sledging and bitter rivalry(as seen in the recently concluded Gavaskar-Border trophy won by champion team of Australia. Gilchrist, an attacking batsmen par excellence in any form of cricket, he had one of the best strike rates for a batsman over a long period of time. His primary forte though was in standing behind the wicket and helping Warne, Glenn McGrath, Gillespie etc. become 10 times more deadlier then they were as they were assured that there is always a safe pair of gloves which will do it's acrobatic best to hold on to the faintest edges and nicks by batsmen. Perhaps it was a fitting tribute to his masterful skills that he retired on his last test after overtaking Mark Boucher as the test wicketkeeper who had the highest number of dismissals to his name in his playing time.
Found out a link to Gilchrist's blog, not sure though if he writes regularly or not; as the last blog entry was done on Nov 2007. Anyways some old articles do give a peep on the thoughts of the genius man !

My favorite bollywood movies of 2007

My top 10 bollywood movies of the year 2007 gone by :-

1) Guru - A mani ratnam production/direction effort loosely based on the inspiration from the life and times of Dhirubhai Ambani; this movie was the first biggie of the past year and boasted of some excellent music by the maestro Rehman. Finally the pairing of Aby Baby and Ash clicked on silver screen.

2) Jab We Met - An honest sincere effort by Imtiaz Ali, in his second outing this time scores big time among the movie goers. Effortless acting by Bebo & and her ex beau Shahid helped for sure.

3) Johny Gaddar - A Vijay Anadnesque movie from the seventy's thrillers; this movie was a surprise all the way by Shriram Rahgvan who had impressed in his debut some years back with "Ek Hasina Thi".

4) Taare Zameen Par - Amir Khan both in front and behind the camera, this movie had to be something great. Indeed stirring stuff.

5) OSO - Thoroughly entertaining and had some real eye candy with Deepika as the female lead. An opportunistic debut by the pretty lass !

6) Chak De India - Post Swades, SRK had built up tremendous expectations regarding his potential as an actor of serious merit(bos office success not counting). In CDI he delivers and O boy how !

7) Cheeni Kum - An intelligent, intellectual slightly subdued romantic comedy starring Big B and Tabu, it was worth the 2 hrs it consisted of.

8) Life in a metro - A great compilation of some real rock music in Hindi ever delivered in a movie made this ensemble start cast movie a treat to watch. Some interesting story lines and competent acting proved to a big draw in the multiplexes.

9) The Blue Umbrella - The best children film in ages (probably after Makdi, nothing else comesup in my mind) had Pankaj Kapur as its lead actor and what an actor he is, super ! Thogh a bit tweaking on the sound of the movie would have helped for sure. Nand Kishore Khatri's accent was a bit incomprehensible to listen.

10) Namesake - I loved the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri based on the life of a first generation immigrant from Kolkata. It made everybody emotional I'm sure, though released in north America without much hype it surely got its audience through word of mouth in later stages. Kudos to Mira Nair for Namesake. I hope it gets noticed by the jury of academy awards this year.

P.S. - There is no ranking in this list and its the list of movies which I had seen and as a result could have missed out on some other equally deserving movies.
